RED BIRD MISSION TRIP

Please send prayers and travel mercies to several members of our SUM community, who will be leaving for a week at the Red Bird Mission Camp in Beverly, Kentucky on Saturday, August 3rd.  During their time of service, they will be working on three different houses and will be one of ten church groups from across the country that will be working together to support those less fortunate in the area surrounding the Red Bird campus.

MEMORIES TO MEMOIRS” SUMMER CLASS
Your first job. Your first date. A tough period in your life. A day when time stood still. Memories to Memoirs will help you put snippets of your life (or a longer stretch) into words for posterity. We will meet weekly on Tuesday mornings in August from 10:30 to noon in the Verdin Parlor (please enter through the kitchen). We will take turns sharing our pieces (for those who want to share). Dennis Winkleblack will lead the class, offering writing tips and an abundance of encouragement. All writing skill levels welcomed, especially those who’re certain they can’t write. The first class starts August 6th and goes until August 27th.

COVENANT TO CARE BACKPACK DRIVE
It’s time to start planning our annual backpack drive supporting children in need. Covenant to Care for Children (CCC) has once again, asked if we could provide LL Bean backpacks for the kids. Last year, we were able to supply close to 74. Let’s try to match or exceed that number this year! Please be on the lookout for an LL Bean summer sale of backpacks with free shipping. As always, comparable brand backpacks are also appreciated. If it is easier for you to donate and not shop, please write a check out to SUMC and write “CCC Backpack” in the memo line. If giving cash, please write “CCC Backpack” on the envelope. Both donations can be dropped in the Sunday plate. A collection box for the backpacks will be located in Wesley Hall in the beginning of August or you may drop them by the LLI office anytime. The collection deadline is Sunday, August 11th. Thank you for your contribution.

MESSAGES FROM HOSPITALITY
We would like to thank the Board of Trustees and the Finance folks for helping with Coffee Hour for the month of July. Great job! SPR will be taking care of the month of August for us. Thank you! Lastly, on Sunday, August 25th we will be putting on a breakfast in between the two services to allow for a yummy social hour! Please SAVE THE DATE!
