Announcements Week of September 1


  • REGULAR WORSHIP HOURS RESUME ON SEPT. 8TH – Just a reminder that we will be going back to our regular worship hours of 8:00 a.m. (Communion Service), 9:00 a.m. (CAYA Contemporary Service) and 10:30 a.m. (Traditional Worship Service) starting next Sunday, September 8th. Church school will also resume on this day.

  • RALLY DAY IS SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 8TH – Please come join us next Sunday, September 8th for Rally Day. Booths will be set up all morning displaying the wonderful activities/ministries that we offer at SUM. It will be a great event!!

  • GREETING CARD SALE SUNDAY– Greeting cards will be on sale today in Wesley Hall. All cards are $.50 each and the money will go toward buying new cards. Greeting cards will be for sale on the first Sunday of every month.

  • NEW YORK CONFERENCE OPPORTUNITIES FOR MISSION AND DISASTER RESPONSE – If you are interested in getting involved in mission ministries, The New York Conference has some opportunities for mission and disaster response. Please click here for more information.

  • HOSPITALITY COMMITTEE – The Hospitality Committee would like to thank the teams from Music Ministries (all groups) for providing the yummy treats during the coffee hour throughout the month of September. Thank you! Also, we will be debuting our Coffee Mug Kiosk! Thanks to Matthew Jamieson for building it! What is a Coffee Mug Kiosk? Well, in our continued efforts to run clean and green, we have decided to use real coffee mugs during coffee hour. We have about 30 mugs donated so far and could use about 70 more. If you would like to donate some coffee mugs, please contact Heidi Fitzsimmons at with the count and leave them in the kitchen before Rally Day. Thank You! Heidi Fitzsimmons

  • THANK YOU FROM JOYCE TULLOCK – I would like to express my appreciation for all the kindness I have been shown since the loss of my cousin in Scotland as well as for the continued support since my hospital stay. My church family is very special to me and I feel very fortunate to be a part of our SUM community. Thank you! Joyce Tullock

  • SUSANNA CIRCLE RESUMES TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10TH – The Susanna Circle will resume on Tuesday, September 10th at 7 p.m. in the Parlor. The group will work on a Days for Girls project while we catch up with each other and hopefully welcome new women to our group. Barbara Vasquenza, Inventory Control for our SUM Days for Girls Chapter, will lead us in a “no experience necessary” DFG tri-fold task, which is easy to do but a very important piece of the Days for Girls Kit.   • GIFTS OF LOVE – Unfortunately, Gifts of Love had a basement flood and lost a lot of their inventory. If you find yourself starting your holiday shopping early this year, please keep Gifts of Love in mind. You can donate gifts directly at the Avon location at 34 East Main St., you can check out our Amazon wishlists or you can donate to our plumbing and clean-up costs.  Thank you for all that you do to keep working families in the Greater Hartford area thriving.   • SUM’S YOUTH NEEDS YOU! – Interested in volunteering with the youth group? Anyone over the age of 18 is welcome to volunteer. Volunteering can be anything from leading a discussion on Christianity in the world today to out-driving our teens in go-karts, to leading an art project. Whatever your gifts are, we can find a way to incorporate them!   • DAYS FOR GIRLS – Thanks to Cassandra Garcia’s networking, 200 kits were dropped offin Pittsburgh, PA by Lisa Edwards and her daughter, Nina, a student at Carnegie Mellon. Their next stop is refugees around the world. Thanks SUM for making the kits. Jan Baker, Days for Girls

  • FINANCIAL PEACE UNIVERSITY THIS FALL – It’s time to stop worrying about money! Pam already has the materials on hand so you don’t need to order separately, just sign up for the class online. The classes will be held on Mondays from 6:00-7:30 p.m. in the Barn starting on Monday, September 16th through November11th.

  • SOCKTOBER – Socktober is just around the corner. Last year we collected over 1,000 pairs of socks. This year, we want to do more. If you would like to help, please contact Debbie Dunn .

  • CHILDREN’S MINISTRY – Help is needed in our Church School on Sunday mornings. Please consider leading or helping in a classroom this year! Please see Jody Swan or email Jody for more details.

  • NURSERY HELP NEEDED – Please come help our young SUM parents enjoy an hourto themselves. Support is needed a few times a month in the Nursery. You’ll definitelyleave each Sunday with a smile. These babies/toddlers are truly a gift from God. Please stop in the nursery or contact Jody Swan. Thanks.
