NEW - Wednesday Morning Play Group

We are starting a drop-in play group on Wednesday mornings up in the barn at the church. It will run from 9:30-12 and is very laid back - come when you can, stay for as long as you'd like and leave when you want. We will have good coffee and treats, so no need to bring anything but yourself and your kiddos (if they're around - Erin will be showing up solo since both kids are in school). If you know someone who would be interested in joining us please pass this along!  RSVPs are not necessary - if you're free, stop by :)

If you have any questions feel free to contact Erin Ott by email at or by call/text at 914-213-1493.

Do you like to sew? Check out our Days for Girls or Prayers and Squares groups.

If you like to knit, you can hang out with like-minded folks who meet for our Prayer Shawl Ministry.

You will be welcomed with open arms!

Want to make some new friends and have an occasional excuse to blow your diet? Then Dinner for Eight is right for you! Four times over eight months, groups of eight people gather around dinner tables to laugh, share stories and get to know each other outside of church. The hosts prepare the main dish and the guests bring an appetizer, side dish, and dessert. Each household takes a turn hosting, with a different mix of guests. If you would like to join the fun but can’t make the commitment to four dinners, sign up for the substitute list.  You can join as a single or a couple; you can join with a friend; you can invite your neighbors. Truly, every gathering is an enjoyable experience!

Sign-up for four dinners happens in September. The substitute list is open year-round - CONTACT US HERE.

Ever read a great, thought-provoking book and wish you had a bunch of friends who had just finished the same book? Well, join the Men’s Book Club. These gentlemen, from inside and outside the church membership, read seven or eight books a year.  They gather at the end of each book for an hour and half to share reactions and explore themes. The group then votes on selecting the next book, which could be fiction or non-fiction. Recent nominees include such varied books as Jon Meacham’s The Soul of America, Georgia Hunter’s novel We Were the Lucky OnesIt Can’t Happen Hereby Sinclair Lewis and The Death and Life of the Great Lakesby Dan Egan.

Meeting are usually held on a Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at a participant’s home. To get started, contact Alan LaHue right here.

Women have three great options for enjoying Christian sisterhood at SUM.

The Rebekah Circle meets the fourth Thursday of each month (the third Thursday in November) at noon in the Annex. The Annex is the white house attached to the church; enter from the back walkway. Bring a bag lunch and make some friends! For many years, this circle has supported the Town of Simsbury Social Services Department by donating supermarket gift cards to benefit neighbors in need. To get started, just show up or contact Jane Whelchel at 860.658.7356.

The Susanna Circle usually (but not always) meets at 7:00 P.M. on the second Tuesday of each month in the Verdin Parlor, next to Wesley Hall in the main church building. This circle enjoys guest speakers as well as field trips and special activities, some during the Tuesday meetings and some on Saturdays. A long list of worthy causes is supported in a variety of ways, including the Methodist Munch Super Bowl snack sale. The December 11, 2018 meeting is the circle’s annual holiday party. It begins at 6:00 P.M. in the Annex.

To get started, check the church calendar or contact Rolene Johnson at 860.658.0634 or

The Rachel Circle meets the second Wednesday of each month (October to May) at 9:30 A.M., drawing about a dozen longtime SUM members. The location rotates among members’ homes and the Annex, the white house attached to the church. In addition to fostering friendships, the group supports the South Park Inn shelter, conducts a non-perishable food drive and provides hospitality at occasional church events.
