Accessibility Project Update

Behind the scenes, plans are still moving forward on the project to make our sanctuary more accessible to anyone with mobility challenges. We know how hugely inconvenient it is for anyone using a wheelchair, walker, or crutches (or a knee-scooter, Len B!) to get from the sanctuary down to Wesley Hall and to get to a bathroom. Our own Rodolfo Garcia has been working on various architectural renderings for a plan that will transform the rear entry of our church into an inviting and attractive entryway with a friendlier elevator/lift and access to Wesley Hall without going through the kitchen. It will meld beautifully with the historical feel of the church and will no longer feel like a back alley entrance. And believe it or not, he found space to have a lavatory on the sanctuary level!

Rodolfo and I met with two town engineers a few months ago, and they were pleased with the plans and supportive of our goal. Our next step is to have a high-level estimate of potential costs done to start a capital campaign to raise funds to help offset the cost. We have a member of the team looking into grants already. Stand by for more information coming soon!

And did I mention there will be a bathroom on the sanctuary level?!
