Covenant to Care for Children and the Joy of Giving

Is it more fun to give or receive? When it comes to the CCC Christmas outreach project it depends on who you ask!

One hundred and seven children were delighted by the gifts so generously provided by SUM and LLI families. If they could vote, I am sure 107 children would vote for receiving! Parents, caregivers, and support staff were overwhelmed by the thoughtfulness and care that evidently went into the selection of gifts for each child. Adults, seeing the joy on children’s faces as they excitedly opened their presents and shared their treasures with friends, would surely add another 100 plus votes for receiving!

So, what about giving? LLI parents began asking early in November when the “giving tree” would be up in anticipation of helping children less fortunate than their own. I watched parents and their children carefully choose ornaments from the giving tree and then talk excitedly about the gifts they would provide. When I was shopping, I saw grandparents with their grandchildren in the toy aisles carefully choosing the perfect Legos and dolls for anonymous children on their lists. If I asked all these adults to vote we would most likely have as many votes for giving as receiving!  Throughout the Christmas season, I continually saw adults teaching by example the joy of giving. This year an eight-year-old former LLI student decided she would like her friends to bring gifts for CCC in lieu of birthday presents to her party. What a gift for children to have the opportunity to learn and experience the joy of doing something special for others!

Thank you for your continued support of this important outreach ministry.
