Christmas Pageant

Simsbury United Methodist Church was bathed in a warm, festive glow at noon on December 8th as the annual Christmas pageant unfolded. An energetic group of children, ranging from tiny tots to exuberant teens, took to the “stage” on the steps of the altar, their faces alight with excitement. The mood was set, and energy buzzed in the form of great narration, beloved Christmas carols, and giggles from the angels.

As the pageant commenced, the audience was treated to a delightful performance. A troupe of SUM youth dressed as shepherds and others as roaming stable animals added a touch of whimsy to the scene. The kids, their voices pure and sweet, sang praises to the newborn king.

One highlight of the pageant was undoubtedly the portrayal of baby Jesus by little Liam. Cradled in Mary's (Casey’s) arms, Liam stared at her peacefully, oblivious to the attention he was receiving. As the pageant progressed, Mary's arms grew weary, but she persevered until “Jesus” was passed to Joseph (Maeve), whose locks irritated Jesus’s eyes, and he started to cry. He was then returned to his dad in the front pew for the remainder of the pageant, as a stand-in baby doll sufficed - but not nearly as cute!

Adding to the beauty of the performance was the skillful playing of Tabitha on the violin and Evelyn’s singing solo, which enhanced the festive atmosphere. With guidance from Bridget Scarlato, the combined efforts of SUM’s young performers created a truly unforgettable Christmas pageant.
