A Caring Bridge

I use a service that helps me keep up with friends going through a health journey. The service is provided by an organization called Caring Bridge.  Their mission is to build bridges of care and communication, providing love and support on a health journey. I receive regular journal entries from friends going through health issues. I discovered the service myself when I wanted to keep my support network informed during my time with breast cancer years ago. I wrote journey entries on my health progress, updating my circle of family and friends on the blessings and the challenges of my treatment, side effects, gratitude, and needs. The service then emailed my support network a link to my entries. Those who read the entries responded with words of encouragement or emoji hearts. It was a helpful approach. I invite you to explore it for yourself or a loved one.

The Caring Bridge organization recently published a helpful article with tips on supporting friends and family through their health journey. I’ve included some excerpts here for you.

A Small Note Can Make a Big Difference
A few simple words can offer great comfort during a health crisis. Writing words of encouragement, sharing a fond memory, or simply offering condolences can let loved ones know they are not alone. Unsure what to say? Finding the right words to say when a loved one is going through a health journey sometimes feels impossible. Here are some examples to start writing a well-wish to offer support and encouragement.

"I am so sorry you're going through this."
“You are not alone; we are with you and supporting you the whole way.”
"It sounds like today was tough. I'm praying tomorrow is better."

Whether you use the Caring Bridge service or simply send an email or text, you’d be surprised how meaningful it can be to the recipient to know you are thinking of them.
