Solidarity with Our Jewish Neighbors

The October 14 Messenger featured a letter from Pastor Gene addressing the Israel-Hamas War and our Christian response. In addition, the Simsbury Clergy Association met. We spoke with Rabbi Bekah Goldman during our time together, sharing our sorrow and concern for her and the congregation. We collaborated on the letter below that was conveyed to the FVJC-Emek Shalom congregation on behalf of the faith communities we represent.

To our FVJC-Emek Shalom neighbors and friends,

We write to you as leaders of faith communities in the Simsbury community to express our heartfelt support and solidarity with you as we witness the unfolding tragedy in Israel and the broader Middle East. Our hearts break as we witness the violence and destruction taking place. We want to express our support for your congregation: for you; and for your friends and family members in Israel and surrounding areas.

We believe that our various faith traditions can play a significant part in promoting peace and reconciliation; and we give thanks for the unique and profound witness your community stands for in this regard. Know that we stand with you; and our prayers will not cease until peace and wholeness are restored.

We extend our love and our prayers to you, as fellow seekers of justice. As faith leaders, we stand unequivocally on the side of peace. And we believe that our shared values of compassion and reconciliation can, indeed, change the world. The strength, resilience, and faith exhibited by your community are a beacon of hope and a reminder that unity and compassion can prevail. But you are not alone.

We are here for you. We stand with you and have you all in our prayers. May your congregation continue to be a source of solace and sanctuary. Hold one another close and know that you are in our hearts during this difficult time.
