Welcome to Adult Spiritual Growth - Fall 2024

It's time for another season of good books, healthy discussions, and making new friends at the Adult Spiritual Growth classes. It is our time to open our minds and expand our worlds. Adult Spiritual Growth (ASG) is ideal for meeting new people. As always, we welcome all of the members of the Quad and beyond. Click here to read about and register for one or more classes.

This fall, we are offering another interesting array of classes:

Sep 23rd, Mon 4:30 – 6 with Susan Samuel and Tami LePage
James, What You Do Matters, by Margaret Feinberg

This a joy-filled, fresh study of the book of the Bible that sounds more like Jesus than any other letter in the New Testament. Book with streaming video.

Sep 23rd, Mon Zoom 6:30 – 7:30 with Eileen Brogan
What If Jesus Was Serious?: A Visual Guide to the Teachings of Jesus We Love to Ignore by Skye Jethani (144 pgs)

What If Jesus Was Serious? is a compilation of all-new reflections (and hand-drawn doodles) from Skye Jethani. He takes a look at some of Jesus’ most demanding teachings in the Sermon on the Mount and pushes us to ask whether we’re really hearing what Christ is saying.

Sep 24th, Tues 10:30 – 12 with Eileen Brogan
What do Our Neighbors Believe?: Questions & Answers on Judaism, Christianity & Islam 2nd edition by Micah Greenstein & Kendra G Hotz & John Kaltner.

What Do Our Neighbors Believe? Second Edition organizes the three belief systems, asking the same questions of each: When and where did each originate? What are the sacred writings? What kind of leaders does each have? What are their most essential beliefs? New sections explore current ethical questions and issues, including the deliberate use of misinformation about Islam to bolster power and generate fear and the recent rise in anti-Semitic hate crimes. We plan to follow this class with a live discussion with local religious leaders. Stay tuned.

Sep 11th  Wed Discussion with Deacon Deb 5:30 – 6:30
Created for Connection Series tie-in with sermon series (Sep 11 – Oct 9)

This 5-week discussion series aligns with the Created for Connection Sermon Series offered during Sunday worship at all the churches in the Quad-Simsbury, Copper Hill, North Canton, and Washington Hill from Sept 8 - Oct 6. You do not need to attend the sermon to participate. There is no homework. Come, listen, learn. Bring a friend.

Oct 16th Wed Discussion with Deacon Deb 5:30 – 6:30
Words Of Life by Adam Hamilton (Oct 16 – Nov 20)

Adam Hamilton brings modern eyes to the most important set of ethics in history. He considers the commandments in their historical context, considering the meaning of each commandment in Hebrew, unpacking how Jesus reinterpreted them, and showing how every thou-shalt-not was intended to point to a life-giving "thou shalt." He also explores how the latest research in science and psychology illuminates these commandments, rightly understood, as a way of ordering one's life beautifully in the present day.

Sep 12th  Women’s Bible Study Thurs 10:30 – 12 with Donna Motyl
The Women’s Bible Study continues with a study of the Book of James, followed by one of Paul's letters. The New Testament Commentary purchased for the church will guide the discussions. Bring your study Bible.
