Reflecting on Commissioning and Ordination: A Journey of Gratitude

This year's Commissioning and Ordination events at the NYAC 225th Annual Conference Session brought back memories of my commissioning and ordination experiences. These ceremonies are more than just formalities; they are profound milestones in a spiritual life-shaping journey. As I participated in this year's events, I found myself transported back to my path to ordination, deeply grateful for the love and support I received from the Simsbury United Methodist community.

The commissioning and ordination ceremonies are potent reminders of the calling that brought me into ministry. Watching the candidates step forward, I could see the culmination of their hard work, a journey filled with challenges and triumphs. It reminded me of the intense period of preparation I underwent, a time when my faith was tested and strengthened.

In those moments of reflection, I vividly recalled my own ordination ceremony. The feeling of the bishop's hands on my head, the weight of the stole being placed around my shoulder, and the words of consecration resonated deeply within me—each of these memories came rushing back with an emotional intensity that overwhelmed me. The journey to ordination is not a solitary one; it is supported and sustained by a community that believes in you and prays for your success. For me, that community was Simsbury United Methodist Church.

The Simsbury community played a pivotal role in my preparation for ordination. From the earliest days of my discernment process, you provided a nurturing environment where my call to ministry could flourish. The encouragement from friends and family, the insightful mentorship from seasoned pastors, and the fellowship of this church community were instrumental in my journey to becoming the Reverend Deborah J. Clifford.

This is not just a reflection but a love letter to you, SUM. I am surrounded by your love every day, and it is a gift I cherish. I am grateful every day for the privilege to serve, a privilege made possible by your unwavering support. Thank you from the depths of my heart.

Sincerely,

Deacon Deb
